Dr. Phil Chanin
I graduated from Nashville’s West End High School, where I had the great good fortune to play basketball for the late Joe Shapiro, who taught me so much about reaching one’s potential, in life and in sports. Subsequently, I received a Bachelor’s Degree from Amherst College and a Doctorate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
I did Post-Doctoral training in Massachusetts and in Philadelphia, at The Devereux Foundation. I opened a private practice in Ardmore, on Philadelphia’s Main Line. I then relocated back to Massachusetts, living on the campus of the Northfield Mt. Hermon School, and spent five years working at an inpatient substance abuse treatment hospital in New Hampshire. I then established a private practice in Keene, NH, before moving back to Nashville in 1991.
Emily Ector-Volman
I have a passion for working with individuals and couples to write their life story as they always imagined it. I take a client-centered approach to relationship and sex therapy, which means each session is your time to explore your vision of connection, love and wholeness in a safe, judgement-free environment.
I received my Master’s of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Trevecca University and hold an LPC license in the state of Tennessee. I am also a National Board Certified Counselor (NCC), Certified Imago Relationship Therapist, and a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), the Nashville Psychotherapy Institute (NPI), and the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT).
I received a Bachelor’s degree from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA and worked in the entertainment industry for over twenty-five years before choosing to pursue therapy as a second career. People are sometimes surprised to learn of my career in comedy writing, but I see the similarities as this: comedy is about observing life’s biggest and smallest moments while writing is about exploring someone’s intimate story, empathizing with their struggles, and letting their life unfold beautifully.

Chelsea Nixon, LMSW
Chelsea is passionate about helping parents and couples let go of fear and transform the stories that keep them from connecting to each other and their authentic selves. She is often described by others as genuine, insightful, and inviting. Her real superpower though is helping those who feel skeptical that therapy can help them to transform and flourish as they become more in-tune with themselves. Chelsea uses an approach that is both compassionate and unreserved, infusing humor, science, and creativity to offer clients a unique experience that leaves them feeling supported, understood, and empowered.
Chelsea loves to work with clients who: feel worried and stressed while trying to conceive or in their role as parents, struggle with overwhelmingly negative feelings about themselves, obsess over thoughts or feelings, navigating grief and loss, feel unsupported by or like they can’t get on the same page with their partner, or wanting to heal from histories of trauma or abuse. Chelsea is a secular therapist who is open to the beliefs and spiritual experiences of all clients, and has a particular passion for helping clients heal after leaving toxic religious environments.
Chelsea’s other passions include true crime and paranormal podcasts and shows, coffee, supporting local businesses, buying books faster than she can read them, and relaxing at the park with her husband, daughter, and doggo.
